Can a snare drum head really change the tone of your drum in a discernible way? The short answer: yes. If you’ve ever used a dampening ring, or maybe just a piece of duct tape, you know that you can totally change the sound of your snare (mostly overtones) pretty simply.
This video from Gear Gurus does as good of a job as I’ve seen demonstrating this. They take three of Remo‘s most popular snare heads and do a head to head (pardon the pun…way to easy) comparison, with and without backing music.
