Each day through December 15, Sonar USA is giving away a copy of either Benny Greb’s DVD The Language of Drumming or Steve Smith’s DVD Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.

All you have to do is take a photo of a piece of Sonar gear and upload it to Instagram. Each day, a winner will be picked, and at the end of the giveaway period, Sonar will give away a Side Snare Drum, a 10″ x 5″ Steel Snare with black powder coated fittings.

Back when I was a young stick twirler, we had the choice of three (albeit very good) cymbal brands. But today, I’m very encouraged by the number of boutique cymbal brands that have popped up.

There’s one thing that I really like about this giveaway. It’s not because, as a drummer, there are just not enough drum giveaways. It’s not because the prizes are from Gretsch and LP, which are both great companies.

I like this drum giveaway because it’s hosted by a drummer, Cindy Blackman Santana, and not an energy drink company, movie studio, or even a music store. If I’m going to hand over my email address, I like the fact that it’s going to to one of the best drummers in the world!
